Yury's principal area of specialisation is air law. He has advised a major foreign carrier on tax optimisation in connection with its VAT exemption at regional Russian airports, and has successfully defended clients in tax cases before the Russian commercial (arbitrazh) courts, obtaining decisions in their favour. Through sustained legal work with the Ministry of Transport and the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia), he secured a 20% reduction in air navigation charges. He has also represented a client before the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation in a case concerning the refund of overpaid customs duties; the case was included in the Supreme Court's review of judicial practice.
Yury acts on an ongoing basis for leading international airlines operating in Russia, including carriers from Turkey, the UAE, Ethiopia and China. His practice covers the establishment and regulatory support of airline representative offices; dealings with the aviation, customs and tax authorities; currency control and sanctions compliance in airline settlements; customs and tax disputes concerning aircraft and aviation assets; and the defence of carriers at all court levels in claims arising from international carriage by air under the Montreal and Warsaw Conventions.
